Location based routing protocols for vehicular Ad-hoc Network

Location-based routing protocols are used in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in which the information about the location of nodes are used for communication between each other. It knew as Geographic Routing Protocol or Position-Based Routing Protocols. A Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANET) or Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a collection of wireless nodes without any centralized Access Point (AP), or Centralized Administration.

Different Kinds of Routing Protocols

According to the structural way Routing protocols are two types- Topology-based and Position based.

Routing Protocols Structural View
 1. Topology-Based Routing Protocols:

In topology-based routing protocol, for forwarding packets information about the link that sits in a network are used. Dived into three categories:  Proactive, Reactive and Hybrid Routing  Approach.

Proactive Routing: Maintain a  broadcasting table throughout the network; The Broadcast table determines the possible Path and Destination of each node in the respective network.

Reactive Routing: Follow a route for the current user only and according to the transmission of data it discovers its path.

Hybrid Routing: Combination of both Proactive and Reactive Routing protocols

  2. Position Based Routing Protocols:

Position-based routing protocol maintains an additional information, unlike the Topology-based routing protocol. Here respective nodes are determined by using the physical location information. Each node maintains its own position and the all other nodes within a fixed range by the GPS system and some others structured posting methods.
Some location-based routing protocols are: Location-Aided Routing (LAR),  Energy Efficient Location-Aided Routing (EELAR), Greedy Location-Aided Routing Protocol (GLAR),  Location-Aided Energy Efficient Routing (LASER), Anonymous Location-Aided Routing in MANETs( ALARM),  Wireless Sensor Networks in Home Automation (WSNHA), Improved Hybrid Location Based Ad-hoc Routing Protocol (IHLAR), Location Based Opportunistic Routing Protocol (LOR), Anonymous Location-Based Efficient Routing Protocol (ALERT), Cross-Layer Routing Protocol (CLMHR).
